After working for the city and this recent transformation (mostly thanks to Judy), I think I am going to try my hand in the financial sector (i worked in both the tech sector and the public sector so far). My friend Rodrick once again came through for me, as he’s starting there on Jan 1st 2006.. my start date will be a week later, so I can give sufficient two-weeks notice to DoITT.
My initial offer letter was disappointing (when placed next to Rodrick), but i negotiated my salary a little higher and I think it’s do-able. It’s definitely a bit more than for DoITT but hey the more the merrier!

My friend Rodrick, who I’ve known since high school, works for the City of New York (aka working for nyc.gov). He heard there were some openings and he got me a job there. I enjoyed working at NYI for the last four years or so but it’s probably time to move on. I still will help Erik and Phil out if they need anything but hopefully they won’t abuse that offer of mine.
Funny thing is that the department Rodrick works for, DoITT (Department of Telecommunications & Infrastructure) is right by my old school, Polytechnic University. So i will be returning to that area quite often now it seems!

So I’ve done some work on the side, private consultation type deal, but now I finally have a real job. It’s only part time because i’m still in school, but at least now I have some extra cash coming in. Living at home with mom sure cuts down on your expenses!!
When I posted my resume on monster.com, I had quite a few recruiters (head hunters as i call them), ring me up. When this lady named Dina called me one afternoon, I was suspicious and even asked her after setting up an interview “Are you an actual company?”. Looking back, that was rather crass of me, but I got the answer I wanted to hear.
After I went for the interview, they asked if i knew PERL which i wasn’t very strong with, but i guess they figured i’d pick it up as i went.
My work schedule of course has to fit around my school schedule, but seems like a cool company, if not a little small.
